Auditor's Dozen "Always"

Reputations are either given or earned. It is far better to earn a reputation than have one given. Usually, given reputations are not positive. One of the most important keys to successful internal auditing is to have a positive reputation. Obtaining a good reputation is easy, if you are willing to do just two things.

First, you must be competent. You must know your stuff, and you must prove your competence. Secondly, you must be fair and above board all of the time.

Below is our Auditor's Dozen "Always". It is a list of a dozen (okay more than a dozen) things to always do to ensure your positive reputation. They are in no particular order. All must occur for success.

Auditor's Dozen "Always"

Always do your best

Always be objective

Always show respect

Always meet timelines

Always keep your word

Always consider continuous improvement

Always consider auditee's words

Always communicate clearly

Always clearly communicate non conformities

Always care

Always give credit where credit is due

Always thank the auditee

Always protect the audit integrity

Always be part of the solution

Always take good notes (submitted)
